Abstract

The antibiotic xanthocillin is produced by growing a culture of Penicillin notatum Westling in an aerated and stirred submersion culture at a temperature of 24 DEG C.-30 DEG C. until the mycelium is broken down, and the antibiotic liberated by the breakdown of the mycelium precipitated in the culture solution, together with residues of the mycelium and other solid constituents, is separated from the culture solution and worked up in a manner known per se.
