[Also in Group XXV] A device for locking a load support (not shown) against downward movement in a substantially vertical channel comprises one or more gravity-loaded locking members 21, Fig. 2, or 30, Fig. 4, mounted on the load support and coacting respectively with a ridge 29, Fig. 2, or shoulder 35, Fig. 4, in the channel. In the Fig. 2 construction the member 21 is pivoted at 24 to the load support and locking is released by raising the support in the channel until a groove 28 allows the member 21 to swing to the position e, whereafter the support may be freely moved downwardly (positions f, g). Locking is re-established when next the support is raised past the ridge 29, a groove 27 allowing the member 21 to swing to position a before striking the underside of ridge 29. In the Fig. 4 construction the lozenge-shaped member 30 has a diagonal slot engaging a pivot 32 on the load support and locking is released by raising the support until a groove 36 allows the member 30 to swing to the position d, whereafter the support may be freely lowered (positions e, f, a). During this process the member 30 is moved along its slot and turned through 180 degrees in relation to the first locking position c. Locking is reestablished as soon as the support is raised past the shoulder 35. Specification 858,755 is referred to.
