Abstract

897,521. Valves. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO. Ltd. Sept. 29, 1958 [Oct. 1, 1957], No. 30675/57. Class 135. [Also in Group XXXIV] A control valve 6 for a booster assisted hydraulic braking system comprises a body 12 defining a chamber 13 connected to the booster 8, a chamber 15 connected to atmosphere and a chamber 17 connected to a source of vacuum, a disc valve 19 in chamber 13 being connected with a plunger 20 exposed to master cylinder pressure, and a flexible annulus 22 of channelsection having one of its flanges secured to the body 12 and the other flange 23 co-operating with the valve disc 19 and a fixed annular seat 16 to control communication between the chambers. On actuation of the master cylinder 1, fluid pressure acts through pipes 2, 3, auxiliary cylinder 4 and pipe 5 to operate the brakes, the pressure also moving plunger 20 to move valve disc 19 against flange 23 to disconnect chambers 13 and 15, and then raise flange 23 against the action of spring 24 from seat 16 to connect chambers 17, 13 to supply vacuum from pipe 7a to one end of booster 8, which is of the atmosphere suspended type and which augments the braking effort initiated by the master cylinder. The annulus 22 may be of synthetic or natural rubber and the flange 23 may be stiffened by moulding into it a flat metal ring.
