Abstract

Cotton woven fabrics and cotton mixed fibre woven fabrics are creaseproofed by dipping them into an aqueous emulsion of poly-methyl siloxane and drying and then treating them with a resin precondensate finishing agent in liquid form selected from monomethylol urea, dimethylol urea, monomethylol melamine, dimetholol melamine, etherified urea formaldehyde resins, etherified melamine formaldehyde resins and cyclic urea resins, e.g. N,N1-dimethylol ethylene urea, tetramethylol acetylene diurea and etherified cyclic urea resins such as methylated dimethylol urone, and a surfactant such as a nonionic surface active agent, e.g. a polyoxyethylene fatty acid ester, baking, soaping and drying. From 0.1% to 5% by weight of the polymethyl siloxane may be applied to the fabric. The treatment of a poplin fabric made from 65% by weight of "Terylene" (Registered Trade Mark) and 35% by weight of cotton is described in an example. Specification 695,703 is referred to.
