Abstract

A composition comprises a synthetic rubber or a polyolefin and the condensation product of a p-alkyl phenol with a 2,6-dimethylol-4-alkyl phenol, or the resinous product separable therefrom by benzene extraction, or the residue of said extraction. In examples polypropylene, styrene/acrylonitrile rubber and butadiene/acrylonitrile rubber are stabilized with the condensation product derived from p-cresol and 2,6-dimethylol-p-cresol, and which is said to be of formula <FORM:0896327/IV (a)/1> Ca, Mg, Zn, Ba or Cd salts of said condensation products also may be used. Vulcanized elastomers may be obtained by the use of materials such as C, S, TiO2, ZnO and benzothiazole disulphide.
