Abstract
A granular or pelletized free-flowing product which may be used in rubber compounding is obtained by adding a synthetic rubber latex or solution to a dry finely-divided pigment such as carbon black or zinc oxide, agitating the mass until it is converted into discrete granules or pellets and then drying. The synthetic rubber may be neoprene, butyl rubber, a copolymer of butadiene with acrylonitrile or styrene, or an organic polysulphide. About three per cent of a wetting agent such as a sodium salt of an alkyl sulphonate, a monosodium aryl sulphonic acid or an alkylated naphthalene sulphonate is preferably added to the latex before the pigment. The latex may be added to channel or furnace black in a rotary baffle to produce particles of approximately 1/8 to 1/60 inch in diameter which may then be dried at 160 DEG C. Specifications 270,658, [Class 70], 404,452, [Group III], and 622,518 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use of sulphur as the pigment, and the addition of coal tar oil, pine tar and asphalt to the mixes. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
