Abstract

896.234. Laminates. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. April 14, 1960 [May 12, 1959], No. 16234/59. Class 140. A foamed thermoplastic resin such as foamed polystyrene, polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride, in block or other form, is reinforced by assembling a reinforcing openwork sheet, e.g. of metal, expanded metal, perforated metal foil or sheet, or wire netting or mesh, between the material and a thin sheet also of foamed thermoplastic resin and bonding the layers together with heat and light pressure. The metal layer may be of steel, brass or aluminium, and the foamed layers may be of the same resins. Sections of the formed laminate may be assembled, or the layers may be moulded, to form a box or container closely surrounding an article to be packed. The laminated material may be used for indoor partitions and roof linings, or, with an outer layer such as of bitumen felt, as a roofing material.
