Abstract

896,004. Welding by fusion. MITCHELL, SHACKLETON & CO. Ltd. Oct. 14, 1958 [Jan. 29, 1958], No. 3019/58. Class 83 (4). The earth connection to a rotating workpiece being welded consists of a conductive disc clamped around the workpiece and contacted by an earthed brush mechanism. In a crank-shaft welding machine, as described in Specification 893,356, the earth connection consists of a copper disc in two parts 4 and 5, carrying clamps 6, 7 bolted around the journal or crank-pin of the crank-shaft. The clamps are so positioned that the disc centre lies on the axis of the crank-shaft. Earthed brushes 9, 10 on spring-loaded pivoted arms 11, 12 contact the opposite faces of the disc 4, 5.
