Abstract

White or light-coloured shaped polymerization products of vinyl chloride or of a mixture thereof with another vinyl monomer (e.g. vinyl acetate), are produced by effecting the polymerization in the presence of at most 3 wt. per cent of an inorganic acid having a dissociation constant below 10-9 and/or anhydride of such acid and working up the polymer into a shaped product (e.g. sheets) with the use of a lead compound as stabilizer. Boric and silicic acids and silicon dioxide are the specified additives for polymerization; in examples, a partially acetylated polyvinyl alcohol (saponification no. 100) and dilauryl peroxide are also used. Particular composition ingredients mentioned are diisooctyl phthalate, lead stearate, dibasic lead stearate, basic lead sulphate and a pigment consisting of calcium carbonate treated with calcium stearate.
