Abstract
A process for making non-blocking films of polythene comprises embodying in the polythene, before it is formed into film, between 0.10 and 5% of one or more finely-divided inert and water-insoluble materials, chosen from inorganic oxides, carbonates, silicates, aluminates and silico-aluminates. Suitable materials are silica, alumina, triferric tetroxide, calcium and magnesium silicates, calcium and magnesium carbonates and natural earths, e.g. kaolin, and these may be incorporated into the polythene mechanically, e.g. by rolls, kneaders or extruders, or by introduction during the polymerization of ethylene, e.g. as a slurry or gel in an inert liquid such as white spirit. The particle size is preferably between 20 millimicrons and 50 microns. Specification 676,559 is referred to.
