Abstract
Linear aromatic polyester fibres are dyed with an aqueous dispersion of a finely-divided dyestuff made by condensing a terephthalaldehyde substituted by alkoxy, alkoxyalkoxy or alkoxyalkoxyalkoxy groups with malonic acid dinitrile or with esters or amides of cyanoacetic acid, the dyestuff preferably having the formula <FORM:0895427/IV (c)/1> in which R1 represents a cyano group or a carboxyl group esterified with an alkyl, halogenoalkyl, cyanoalkyl or alkoxyalkyl radical or a carboxylic acid amide group which may be substituted on the nitrogen atom and X represents an alkyl, alkoxyalkyl or alkoxyalkoxyalkyl radical containing a total of 1 to 5 carbon atoms. As applied to blends of polyester fibres with cotton or wool, the latter fibres are reserved. Dyeing may be effected at the boil or at temperatures above 100 DEG C. under pressure. Alternatively dyeing may be effected at temperatures below the boil in the presence of a carrier. The dyestuffs are converted into the finely-divided condition by dissolving in a water-miscible solvent, adding the so-formed solution to water and then filtering, washing and kneading the precipitate with a dispersing agent. Alternatively, the dry or moist technical product may be ground in the presence of a dispersing agent.
