895,258. Semiconductor rectifiers. CKD MODRANY, NARODNI PODNIK. April 6, 1960 [April 8, 1959], No. 12297/60. Class 37. A selenium rectifier cell comprises a base-plate 1 supporting a selenium layer 3 sandwiched between layers 2 and 4 of the same metal, layer 2 being from 20 to 100 times thicker than layer 4, and a counter electrode 5. The selenium may be mixed with elements from the 3rd, 5th and 8th groups of the Periodic System, e.g. thallium or bismuth, and the metallic layers may be of metals, or alloys of metals, belonging to the 3rd, 4th and 5th group and the 5th series of the Periodic System. One of the layers may be in the form of a grating. The cell may be heattreated before application of the counterelectrode and then, after application of the counter-electrode, submitted to further heat treatment whilst simultaneously passing a forming current.
