894,745. Washing-machines. RASMUSSEN, C. O. Sept. 16, 1958 [Sept. 25, 1957], No. 29590/58. Class 138 (2). A washing and drying-machine includes a drum 17 at the bottom of which are two impellers 16, and the drum is provided with a hollow bottom containing gears 14 and 15 which connect a shaft 9 driven by an electric motor 6 to the impellers. A bushing connected to the bottom of the drum may be caused to grip shaft 9 by spring pressure. Under these conditions the drum 17 is caused to rotate and the impellers do not move relatively to the drum. A substantial part of the water in drum 17 is then discharged by centrifugal force through the perforations in its wall. The bottom of the drum is provided with a raised portion 29 to facilitate circulation.
