[Also in Group XL (a)] A weld 18 between magnesium alloy sheath 12 and end cap 13 of a nuclear fuel element (see Group XL (a)) is made by inserting a magnesium alloy strip in a recess and then melting the strip by electrical resistance heating. According to the Provisional Specification the magnesium alloy strip may be replaced by a strip of silver or other metal which is melted to form a diffusion seal. Specification 790,389 is referred to.
