Apparatus for washing the lower side panels of motor-vehicles includes a horizontal arm, angularly adjustable about its own axis and supported at one end in a support which is pivotable about a vertical axis, the arm carrying at its free end a rotary brush which can be angularly adjusted in a plane containing the axis of the arm; and power means being provided for rotating the brush. The vehicle 10 passes between a handed pair of stands 12 (one only shown), each carrying a rotary brush 13 at the free end of a horizontal, cylindrical arm 14 which is swing- able about the vertical axis of a supporting post 20 journalled in stand 12. Arm 14 extends slidably and rotatably through a head 15 supported on the post 20 and carrying tapered bushes 16 which can be drawn up by screws 17 against arm 14 to clamp it in its adjusted position. An arm 18 is pivotally connected by a bolt 19 to the arm 14 and may be positioned angularly relative to the latter by a bolt 21 passing through arm 14 and a slot 22 in arm 18. Arm 18 rigidly carri.s a housing 23 in which a shaft 24 for the brush is journalled and on top of which is carried a driving motor 25 and speed reducer 26 for driving shaft 24. A fluid motor 28 pivotally connected to an arm 27 carried by post 20 rotates the latter to move and maintain brush 13 in engagement with the vehicle side. Such movement of brush 13 may be limited by a stop 29 secured to post 20 and engagable with a fixed projection on stand 12. Stand 12 carries a vertical spray pipe (not shown) located to supply water and detergent to the vehicle prior to brushing. Operation of the spray means and of the brushes may be initiated by a trip switch operated by the approaching vehicle.
