Abstract
894,232. Electromagnetically-actuated valves. MAROTTA VALVE CORPORATION. March 23, 1960, No. 10366/60. Class 135. An electromagnetically - actuated valve comprises a movable valve member 25, Fig. 1, formed with two sealing faces 22, 32 which co-operate with two longitudinally - spaced seats. The valve member 25 is actuated in one direction by an electromagnetic motor 80 comprising a winding 84, a core 85 and an armature 86 which is secured to a stem 88, the stem contacting the valve member and moving this member to the right against a spring 62, which spring moves the valve to the left when the motor is de-energized. The valve seats comprise a ring 20, Fig. 3, of plastic material and strenthening-rings 26, 27 of metal, preferably aluminium. A sleeve 33, Fig. 1, is provided between the seats and a sleeve 36 and nut 42 fix the seats in position. The motor 80 is such that the force attracting the armature increases as the armature moves towards the coil at a rate which is greater than the increase in the opposing force of the spring 62, thereby the face 32 impacts against the seat and deforms it. Similarly, on de-energizing the motor, the spring 62 causes the same action on the other seat. Connections 69, 76, 72 communicate with the valve bore on either side and between the seats respectively. The valve is balanced by piston members 48, 58 and a third piston member 49 and a vent 52 prevent leakage to the motor. The spring 62 may be adjusted by a nut 64 and the armature may be adjusted relatively to the stem 88.
