Abstract
A steroid derivative having the formula <FORM:0894162/IV (b)/1> wherein Z1 and Z2 are either H or a methyl group, is obtained by reacting an 18,20-epoxy steroid having the formula <FORM:0894162/IV (b)/2> with acetic anhydride in the presence of boron trifluoride as catalyst. The BF3 may be introduced in gaseous state or in the form of a complex with acetic acid, o-phosphoric acid or ethyl ether. The 18,20b -diacyloxy compounds thus obtained may be hydrolysed to the corresponding dihydroxy compounds. Specification 892,078 is referred to.
