Abstract

The invention comprises esters of trans-2,2-dimethyl-3-phenylcyclopropane carboxylic acid of formula <FORM:0894134/IV (b)/1> with ketoalcohols of formula <FORM:0894134/IV (b)/2> where R is an ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic or alicyclic radical containing 3 to 5 carbon atoms. They are prepared by reacting cis- and/or trans - 2, 2 - dimethyl - 3 - phenylcyclopropane carboxylic acids with thionyl chloride to give the trans-acid chloride which is then esterified with the keto-alcohol. The products have pyrethrinlike insecticidal activity.ALSO:Insecticidal solutions, e.g. in acetone, comprise a pyrethrin-like substance which is an ester of trans-2,2-dimethyl-3-phenylcyclopropane carboxylic ester <FORM:0894134/VI/1> with a ketoalcohol of formula <FORM:0894134/VI/2> where R is a C3-5 ethylenically-unsaturated aliphatic or alicyclic radical (see Group IV (b)).
