Abstract

893,939. Stethoscopes. FARADAY ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTS Ltd. Aug. 31, 1960 [Sept. 4, 1959], No. 30270/59. Class 40 (4). In stethoscopic apparatus including a microphone 1, an amplifier 6 and a sound reproducer 7, the microphone output is connected to a frequency doubler 3 or other harmonic converter. The harmonic signals may pass through a low-pass filter 4 which cuts-out frequency components above 200 cycles per second and acts as a feedback trap. A potentiometer 5 has a slider 5a which may be positioned so that substantially only the output from the harmonic converter is applied to the loud-speaker, or so that the harmonic converter and low-pass filter are substantially by-passed. In intermediate positions of the slider 5a the loudspeaker is fed partly with signals from the harmonic converter and partly with signals by-passing the harmonic converter. The frequency doubler employs crystal diodes in a full-wave or bridge circuit. The stethoscope is for listening to weak low-frequency sounds such as the heart beats of an unborn baby. Specification 798,825 is referred to.
