Abstract

1,063,871. Radiation treatment and diagnostic apparatus. G. W. DE LA WARR. Oct. 4, 1963 [July 5, 1962], No. 25839/62. Headings A5R and A5K. [Also in Division H4] Apparatus for generating a complex multifrequency signal for use in diagnosing or treating disease comprises three or more electronic oscillators A1 to A8, each being variable independently of the others through a range extending from 5 cycles/sec. into the radio frequency band, a common mixer 12 to a preamplifier B1 and a main amplifier (D) to which the preamplifier output signal is supplied. Eight oscillators A1-A8, each independently capable of adjustment to produce frequencies between 1 cycle/sec. and 150 kilocycles/sec., are connected through a common bus-bar 12 and a preamplifier B1 to output terminals C1 and C2. One terminal Cl is connected through the main amplifier D to a loudspeaker, a vibrator, sound emitter or apparatus in which the frequency pattern produced by the oscillators is superimposed on a light carrier signal for treatment purposes. The other terminal C2 is connected to a tape recorder F on which the frequency pattern produced by the oscillators may be recorded. A tape recording of one frequency pattern produced by the oscillators or a sound or light signal received from the patient through a suitable transducer e.g. a microphone, may be fed into a second pre-amplifier B2 through an input terminal 20 and thus combined with a second frequency pattern produced by the oscillators at either output terminal Cl, C2. the resulting frequency pattern then being fed through the main amplifier D for application to the patient or to the tape recorder. Alternatively, sound waves (e.g. below 5 cycles/sec.) derived from the patient may be picked up by a microphone (see Division H4) and fed to the second preamplifier B2 through the terminal 20 and thus combined with the frequency pattern produced by the oscillators. The patient may be scanned by a sonic beam containing a recorded frequency pattern derived from the apparatus or infra-red light and the energy reflected from the patient picked up by a microphone or a light transducer and displayed on an oscillscope for diagnostic purposes or fed to the preamplifier B2.
