Abstract

Vinylidene chloride is prepared in continuous manner by reacting 1,1,2-trichloroethane in the gaseous state with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide or an aqueous suspension of an alkaline earth metal hydroxide. The trichlorethane may be used in admixture with steam. The preparation of vinylidene chloride from trichloroethane and milk of lime at approximately 85 DEG C. and atmospheric pressure according to the process of Specification 799,206 is disclaimed. Specification 638,117 also is referred to.
