Abstract

893,717. Dispensing liquids by gaseous pressure. SYNCRO-MIST CONTROLS Inc. Feb. 23, 1960, No. 6307/60. Class 102(2). [Also in Groups XVIII, XXIX and XXXV] Upon depression of an aerosol operating knob 52, Fig. 4, by an electric motor, the lower enlarged part of a valve stem 28 passes into a resilient annular ring 42 and seals off a chamber 62 in a valve housing 20 from the surrounding container whilst concomitantly an orifice 36 in the upper tubular part of the stem 28 passes through a resilient annular seal into the chamber 62 whereby the contents of the latter are discharged via a chamber 56 and a small bore 58. The valve stem 28 is normally loaded to open the chamber 62 to the tube 50 which extends to the bottom of the container. The aerosal need not be of the metering type. The container is held on a stand 66, 64, 70, Fig. 2, by spring arms 82, 84, the stand also supporting a self-starting inductor-type synchronous electric-motor 88, which, through reduction gearing. rotates a metal flap 100 anti-clockwise. As the flap 100 abuts the valve knob 52 it depresses the stem 28 but upon the knob 52 physically contacting the container the motor is stopped; after a delay of one-half of an alternating current cycle the relative polarity of the stator and rotor has reversed so that the motor also reverses and the flap 100 lifts from the knob and rotates clockwise until it is stopped by a part 72 of the stand whereupon it again reverses and approaches the knob for a further operation of the aerosol. This cycle of events continues whilst the motor is energized. (See also Group XXXV).
