Abstract

893,580. Storing gases under pressure. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. Oct. 13, 1959 [Oct. 15, 1958], No. 34593/59. Class 8(2). A double-walled pressurized fluid e.g., liquefied gas container comprises an expandable inner vessel 1 surrounded by an outer shell 2 providing a heat insulation space 3 therebetween; the expansion of the inner vessel at normal working pressures being such as not to be limited by the outer shell 2 but is so limited at an abnormally high pressure and prior to the breaking point of the inner vessel being reached. The inner vessel has a feed pipe 5 and a delivery pipe 6 fitted with a pressure relief valve 7 and is supported by members 4 attached to the outer shell 2. The container may be of spherical shape. The space 3 is evacuated and charged with powder insulation.
