Abstract

893,557. Driving chains. SHAW, D. G. July 6, 1960 [April 9, 1959], No. 12096/59. Class 24. [Also in Group XXX] In a mechanical creeper consisting of a sprocket chain providing an undulating surface for co-operation with live or dummy axles on the underside of mine cars so as to retard or control such cars. The undulating surface is provided by dog members or link extensions carried by the chain which stand proud of the operative run of the chain each dog member having a profile form which provides a plurality of undulations along the operative run of the chain. In the arrangement shown links 11 of a sprocket chain are provided with an undulating upper edge 12 to engage a dummy or live axle 15 of a mine car. The links 11 are slotted at 22 at one end to facilitate replacement. Links 2 bridging the gap between the ends of links 11 have an upper edge 19 lying in the plane of the roof 20 of the undulating edge 12 of the links 11.
