Abstract

893,411. Heating by circulation of fluids. WARMAC Ltd. Aug. 6, 1958 [Aug. 8, 1957], No. 24988/57. Addition to 814,729. Class 64(2) In a heating system in which liquid is circulated by a pump 11 through radiators 12 at a temperature above its normal boiling point, the system is maintained under pressure by apparatus similar to that described in the parent Specification but there is no separate high pressure vessel, the low pressure vessel 16 (to which excess liquid flows when the pressure rises and from which liquid is pumped back to the system when the pressure falls) being connected directly instead to the boiler 10 to maintain the water level 13 therein. The nitrogen bottles 15, also, are connected to the boiler and, regulated by a float-controlled valve 14, maintain a high pressure in the boiler. The control of liquid flow to and from the vessel 16 for compensating for volume change is similar to that described in the parent Specification, but the pumps 18 in the inlet line to the boiler from the vessel 16 are in parallel, one being a reserve while the other is controlled by a pressure-responsive device 22a in the outlet line from the boiler 10 to the vessel 16; further, the valve 21 in the outlet line is opened (for the outflow of excess water when the boiler water expands) by a device 22 responsive to the pressure in the outlet line and therefore to the pressure in the boiler. In the outlet line there is also a pressure-responsive device 33 which operates a switch (in a circuit, Fig. 6 (not shown), similar to that of the prior Specification for giving an alarm and controlling the boiler heating) to give an alarm if there is excessive loss of water or gas from the boiler. If there is insufficient space for the nitrogen in a given boiler to which the system is applied, a small cylinder may be connected above the boiler, a dome-may be mounted on the boiler top or the pipe 19 connecting the top and bottom of the boiler may have an enlarged portion, Figs. 3-5 (not shown). The Provisional Specification describes also the use of plates, in a given boiler, for restricting the space available for the nitrogen.
