Classes 120(1), 120(2) and 120(3) Sliver 10, continuously fed as from a carding- engine to replaceable containers from one to another of which the sliver end is required to be directed, passes through a condenser funnel 8, between rollers 1, 2, thence in self-aligning manner through the nip of rollers 3, 4 (or 5, 6). The sliver is broken and the end simultaneously transferred to the nip of the other rollers 5, 6 (or 3, 4) by a portion 12a of a rod 12 (being automatically or manually rotated about a pivot 13) coacting with a sharp edge formed by sliver deflectors 15, 16.
