Abstract

893,381. Ships' logs. WALKER & SON Ltd., THOMAS. Jan. 30, 1961 [Feb. 11, 1960], No. 4878/60. Class 69 (1). A pitot tube assembly, including a distance tube 3, extends between the bottom 1 and the inner bottom 2 of a ship, and rigidly secured in position at its lower end 4 and resiliently secured at its upper end by flexible metal bellows. The lower end 4 is fixed at 6 to a sea-valve 7 whose lower flange 11 is bolted at 12 to a pad 13 on the bottom 1. The bellows 15 pass through an oversize hole 24 and are bolted at 21 to a ring on the inner bottom 2. The pitot tube proper is not shown, but it is screwed at 31 to an inner tube 30 which can slide through a hole 32 in the ship's bottom by moving up and down in the tube 30. Sealing rings are fitted to the distance tube 3 at 35, to a collar 41 on the tube 30 at 41, and to a plate 52 through which the tube 30 passes at 37. Pressure fluid can be actuated or exhausted through conduits 43 and 44 to raise and lower the tube 30 inside the tube 3. A rubber stop-ring is provided at 51 to cushion the head 50 of the tube 30 when in the lowered position shown in the Figure.
