Abstract
1,250,039. Wells &c. VETCO OFFSHORE INDUSTRIES Inc. 28 Oct., 1969 [17 March, 1969], No. 52692/69. Heading E1F. An apparatus for supporting a casing hanger comprises a housing 18, 17 and a split ring 15 shiftable from an inoperative position, Fig. 3, to a constricted operative position, Fig. 2, in which it provides a seat for the casing hanger (not shown). Fluid supplied through a passage 43 to a port 44 raises an annular piston 40 and a constrictor ring 28 which cams the ring 15 inwardly to form the seat, Fig. 2. A flange 30 on the ring 28 locates above a shoulder 38 on the ring 15 to prevent a return to that original position when the pressure in the passage 43 is relieved. A casing hanger supported by the ring 15 is held down by a lower split ring 13. When the casing is cemented, circulating fluid is passed through conduits 62. In a modification the ring 15 is formed as two concentric coupled split rings, and the port 44 is provided with a non-return valve. The apparatus is adapted for subaqueous work.
