[Also in Group II] A device for comminating solids intercepted in a flowing sewage stream comprises a rotatable cylindrical screen 4, Fig. 3, mounted on a shaft 5 depending from a reversible electric motor, the screen being slotted transversely to form slots 26 and rings 27, Fig. 6, and having at diametrically-opposite reinforced portions 24 thereof vertical recesses in which are secured shear bars 28 provided with tapered cutting teeth 30 for co-operation with notches 39 in a comb plate 33. The teeth 30 may be mounted independently of the bars 28. The screen and comb are disposed in a housing 2 provided with an inlet opening 3 for the unscreened sewage, with a conduit 13 connected to an effluent channel, and with an overflow by-pass conduit 21. An oil cup 10 provides lubrication for the shaft 5. . Specification 661,443 is referred to.
