Abstract

892,585. Incandescent lamps. DURO-TEST CORPORATION. Aug. 11, 1958 [Aug. 13, 1957], No. 25727/58. Class 39(2) A light source comprises an evacuated envelope containing an incandescible tungsten source, a substance which dissociates in the presence of the source and a second substance which converts the heat of recombination of the dissociated substance into visible light. The first substance may be hydrogen and the second a phosphor. Alternatively magnesium aluminate activated with manganese, boron nitride activated with carbon, zinc silicate activated with manganese or phosphorus in vapour form may be used as the second substance. The second substance may be in the form of a coating on the inner surface of the envelope. A lamp of normal form having a filling of hydrogen at low pressure may be used. A cylindrical lamp having a glass tubular support 28, Fig. 7, mounted on the stem tube 12 and supporting a filament 14 by means of more hooks may be used. The support 28 as well as the interior surface of the envelope 10 may be coated with phosphor. In a modification, the filament support 30, Fig. 10, is in the form of a series of semi-cylindrical chambers with a section of the filament 14 passing axially through their centres, the interior wall of the envelope 10 and the surfaces of the chambers being coated with phosphor.
