Abstract
892,057. Magnetic recording &c. apparatus; monitoring. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. April 20, 1959 [May 6, 1958], No. 14467/58. Class 40 (2). [Also in Group XIX] The control equipment for a magnetic drum digital data store has a supervisory circuit operated in the event of power failure to prevent the start of a new processing operation, a power reserve (e.g. a large capacitor) enabling completion of the current operation and operation of the supervisory circuit. An electromagnetic relay may be used in the supervisory circuit, which may be sensitive to a rate of fall of the power supply voltage normally attributable only to power failure. Fig. 7 shows part of the writing circuit comprising a transformer TR2, the secondary of which drives the recording head and having two primary windings for binary 0 and 1) energized oppositely by transistors T2, T3. Writing is inhibited by cutting off series transistor T1.
