Abstract

891,729. Filters. EQUIPMENT DEVELOPMENT CO. Inc. July 26, 1960 [April 28, 1959], No. 14512/59. Class 46. A multi-stage filter installation comprises a plurality of cylindrical outward flow filter screens e.g. 1, 2 in parallel, constituting the first stage, having a common feed tank 3 for rotated scoop members e.g. 8, 10, Fig. 3 (not shown), which feed the respective filters, and a dewatering filter 24 constituting the second stage, which is fed directly by some of the first stage filters and by transfer means e.g. paddle-type conveyer 25 from the outputs of the other first stage filters. The filters 1, 2 are each rotatable about a horizontal axis and have an annular end wall at either end, the wall at one end having an opening (not shown) of greater diameter than at the other end and being formed with a cutting edge around the opening to cut off sludge solids, and the filter 24 comprises a pair of cylinders (not shown) having intermeshing fluted surfaces, the upper cylinder being subject to pressure and the lower cylinder being perforated and provided internally with means for discharging the filtered liquid. The scoop members are mounted on shafts 17, 18 Fig. 2 (not shown), driven by a motor 19, via a variablespeed pulley and a gear 20, and the conveyer 25 is driven from a variable speed motor 29, which also drives the filter 24.
