891,438. Knitting-machines. BOEHRINGER G.m.b.H. GEB. April 20, 1960 [April 27, 1959], No. 13902/60. Class 74 (2). A knitted article 5 is drawn off a flat machine in a horizontal direction by a roller 2 which then allows it to travel downwardly; and a projection 18, arranged in and to one side of the downward path of the article, tilts from the horizontal a bar 6 inserted through the leading welt of the article, to cause the bar to slide out of the welt under gravity. The roller 2 is rotated by a weight 17 acting through cord 7<SP>1</SP> and drum 7 and, in turn, it drives endless tapes 1, through pulleys 2<SP>1</SP> at the ends of, but of smaller diameter than, the roller, so that the peripheral speed of the tapes is less than that of the roller. The tapes bear hooks 8, which engage the welt bar 6 to draw off the article until the article engages with the roller surface, which is of plush, sandcloth, emery cloth, or the like. The article is then drawn off, at increased speed, by the roller and, passing round about a quarter of the roller's circumference, travels vertically downwardly until its welt bar (which has, by now, left the hooks 8 behind) catches by one end against the shoulder 18. Stripper arms 10, oscillated by a cam 15, periodically release the depending part of the article from the roller surface. A container 16, or conveyer belt, is provided.
