Abstract

891,335. Radio receiving apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 8, 1958 [May 11, 1957; June 17, 1957], No. 14759/58. Class 40(5). [Also in Group XL(b)] Remote control of a function of a television receiver 1 (Fig. 1) is effected by a D.C. voltage derived via a rectifier 8 (contained in a sub-unit 2 mounted adjacent the receiver) from line frequency signals Vi the amplitude of which is controlled by a potentiometer 10 at the remote position and to isolate the device 10 and the connecting cable 12 from the receiver chassis potential (especially in the case of A.C./D.C. mains receivers), condensers 6 and 9, which have a low reactance at the line frequency but a high reactance at the mains frequency are included in series with the cable 12. In the described embodiment the D.C. control voltage is added to the normal brilliance control voltage derived from potentiometer 11 and supplied to the picture tube via resistor 4. Other functions such as volume, contrast and synchronization control may be effected in a similar manner. In a second embodiment, also concerned with brilliance control, the condenser 9 is replaced by an isolating transformer (Fig. 2 not shown).
