Abstract

890,877. Side lift trucks. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. May 30, 1960 [Aug. 14, 1959], No. 18988/60. Class 78 (3). In a side lift truck, the only connection between the front and rear wheel carriages 10, 11 is provided by a base frame member 18 of the load-lifting mechanism and hinge members 13, 14, 21, 22 which allow the load-lifting mechanism to move transversely of the truck when an hydraulic ram 28 (Fig. 5) is actuated. Counterbalancing weights 58, 63, which may be batteries for operating an electric motor for driving the truck, are pivoted to extensions 54, 55, 61, 62 of the hinge members 13, 14, 21, 22. The operator's seat, steering wheel and controls are mounted on the stationary upright of the lifting mast to leave the upper surfaces of the front and rear wheel carriages free to receive the load.
