Abstract
890,701. Pestle-and-mortar crushers. NYBERG, J. E. Oct. 11, 1960 [Oct. 26, 1959; Dec. 10, 1959], No. 34866/60. Class 59. Crusher apparatus comprises a mortar whose work surface is that of a body of revolution, a suspended pestle eccentrically connected to a drive motor so that in operation the pestle rolls around the mortar surface, and a device operative to raise the pestle from its work position in the mortar. Co-operating with the liner 20, Fig. 1, of a hingedly-mounted frustoconical motor 18 is a pestle 34 mounted at the lower end of a shaft 36 the upper end of which is rotatably and eccentrically mounted in a member 40 carried by a drive shaft 42 the upper end of which is releasably connected to the shaft 66 of a motor 68 supported on a plate 76. The shaft 42 is rotatably held in a fixed axial position in a bearing sleeve 56 within which is a spacer sleeve 54. A unit comprising the motor 68, drive shaft 42, member 40, bearing and spacer sleeves 56, 54, pestle and pestle shaft is resiliently supported in the crusher frame by means of a plurality of helical springs 78. The unit is movable axially downwardly by means of lever mechanism which comprises two links 90, Fig. 2, pivotally mounted on pins 88 fixed to diametrically-opposed parts on a ring 96 rigid with the crusher frame and a fork 92 each leg of which is pivotally connected to one of the links 90 by means of a pin 100 and is pivotally mounted on a pivot 94 mounted on a ring nut 84 the upper part of which is threaded into the threaded lower part of a ring nut 86. The nut 86 has a flange 107, Fig. 1, which is engageable with an abutment 109 on the sleeve 56. The fork 92 is operable by a hand lever 98. When the lever mechanism is moved into the position shown in Fig. 2, the unit is moved downwardly and moves the pestle into its work position. The axial position of the pestle in the mortar is adjustable by rotating the nut 86. After the material has been crushed, the handle 98 is swung downwardly and the springs 78 lift the unit upwardly and the pestle away from the mortar. The mortar may be swung downwardly by releasing a nut and bolt 32, 30. The apparatus can then be cleaned by introducing compressed air through a nipple 110 or through an inlet pipe 28. The fork 92 may, alternatively, be operable by a poweroperated device.
