Class 59 In a domestic grinding mill, e.g. a coffee grinder, provided with a mill housing and a grinding mechanism one member of which is operatively connected to a crank arm, the crank arm is hinged to a cover for the mill housing. Preferably, the mill is adapted to be operated either manually or through the intermediary of a driven shaft, e.g. of a kitchen machine. As shown, a coffee grinder comprises a housing 10, 11 and a cover 21, which are rotatable relatively to one another, the housing comprising filling and collecting chambers 10, 11 detachably connected to each other by means of screw threads 25, 26. The cover 21 has a crank arm 40 pivotally mounted at one edge thereof and a sleeve 22 removably connected to a spindle 16 carrying a grinding worm 15. The filling chamber 10 has secured thereto a feed funnel 12 carrying a grinding ring 14, and the collecting chamber 11 has in the base thereof a pin 28 formed with recesses 29 adapted to engage a stud-like driving member mounted on the operating shaft of a kitchen machine e.g. of the kind described in Specification 661,593 which is referred to. The spindle 16 is rotatably supported in a bearing 18 which is secured to the upper edge of the filling chamber 10 by means of a spider having spaced arms 19. The spindle 16 rests on a bearing ball 33 which is adapted to be raised or lowered by means of a screw 34 to vary the distance between the grinding ring and worm. The crank arm 40 may be swung through 180 degrees to an inoperative position in which it lies along the top of the cover 21. The filling chamber 10 is provided with feet 39 on which it may be supported when the collecting chamber 11 is removed. The chambers 10, 11 are provided with vertical ribs 45, 46 and may be formed of transparent plastic material. When the grinding mill is to be driven by means of a kitchen machine, the crank arm 40 is brought to bear against a stationary part of the machine while when the mill is operated by means of the crank arm, the housing is held stationary.
