Class 2(2) Threads are produced by spinning viscose into an acid spinning bath containing zinc sulphate, there being introduced into and uniformly mixed with the viscose, as it is flowing to the spinning jet, an aqueous solution of a compound of the general formula in which R 1 and R 2 are alkyl, aryl or alicyclic radicals, R 1 preferably being an alkyl radical containing 6 or more carbon atoms and R 2 preferably being an alkyl radical containing 1-3 carbon atoms, Z is an anion which is not characterized as being an anion of an anionic wetting agent, e.g. hydroxide, halide, sulphate (combined with two cations) or acetate, x and y are whole numbers of at least one, x+y being 2-50 or more, and n is 2, 3 or 4. The viscose preferably contains 1-6% of the additive, based on the weight of the cellulose in the viscose. The spinning bath may contain sulphuric acid, sodium sulphate and zinc sulphate and the threads may be stretched in a second bath also containing sulphuric acid, sodium sulphate and zinc sulphate.
