Abstract

890,525. Hydraulic apparatus. SOC. D'APPLICATIONS DES MACHINES MATRICES. Aug. 31, 1959 [Sept. 1, 1958], No. 29602/59. Class 69 (2). A flow-dividing device for an hydraulic circuit comprises cylinder 1 having a hollow floating piston 6, Fig. 1, the opposite faces of which have throttles 7, 8 for the passage of the divided fluid, and means 15, 17 for automatically developing a counterpressure downstream of the cylinder. A pipe 4 is connected to a source of pressure and to the cylinder 1 and fluid passes to the inside of the piston and through the throttles 7, 8 and ports 11, 12 to the motors 2, 3, the flow through the ports being controlled by the movements of the piston. The outlet from each motor passes through a valve 17, the degree of opening of which is determined by the pressure on the lower side of a piston 15 connected by a pipe 16 to the inlet of the motor. If the flow through one or other of the motors increases causing a pressure drop at the inlet of that motor, the piston 15 moves downwardly to reduce the flow through its valve 17 and apply a counter-pressure which reduces the flow through its associated motor. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the hollow piston 6 and cylinder 1 of the dividing device is connected to the outlets of the motor and in the event of a change in flow through the motors, the piston moves towards the motor of smallest flow to restrict the outlet of the motor of greatest flow and apply a counter-pressure which restricts the flow through that motor. In another embodiment, electromagnetic reversing valves are interposed between the motors and the fluid source and dividing device. In a further embodiment, the motors are connected to two dividing devices 40, 41, Fig. 4, each device being provided with one-way valves 44, 45 which ensure that only the device which is connected to the outlets of the motors is operative during the forward and return strokes of the motors.
