Abstract
890,229. Siphon-discharge water-waste-preventers. WHITSON, M. T. B. Feb. 24, 1960 [March 24, 1959], No. 10173/59. Class 26. A flushing cistern arrangement comprises an air-operated siphonic flushing cistern 1 attached to a storage cistern 2, a float 8 in the latter controlling a water inlet 14 in the former (through a ball-valve 7), and a siphon 11, to transfer water from the cistern 2 to the cistern 1 after discharge of the latter, arranged so that back siphonage therefrom does not occur when the water level in cistern 1 exceeds that in cistern 2. The siphon 11 is operated by an air pipe 12 leading from the top thereof to the bottom of the main siphon 3 discharging the cistern 1 when air is introduced to an auxiliary siphon 4 by means of a bulb 5 and tube 6. The siphon 11 has a bell 13 at the outlet in which air is locked before the water level starts to rise on refilling of the cistern 1 through the inlet 14, the air travelling up the siphon 11 when the level of water in the two cisterns is the same to stop siphon action and to prevent back siphonage. The inlet 14 discharges through a pipe passing through the bell 13. Specification 805,249 is referred to.
