Abstract

A composition comprises (A) bouncing putty, and (B) from 5 to 50% by weight of (A) of a dimethylpolysiloxane having a viscosity at 25 DEG C. of at least 10,000 cs. Compound (A) is the reaction product of (1) 100 pts. (by wt.) of a dimethylsiloxane and (2) from 0,5 to 25 pts. of a boric oxide, a boric acid, a borate or a partially hydrolyzed borate, and is composed almost entirely of dimethylpolysiloxane chains which average 20 to 175 Si atoms and which are hydroxyl-terminated or joined by <FORM:0890007/IV (a)/1> linkages or both. Compound (A) may be made by heating a mixture of (1) and (2) to 250 DEG C. or less, as described in Specification 605,218 and U.S.A. Specification 2,431,898. Siloxane (B) can be mixed into the bouncing putty or with the reactants in preparing the putty. Fillers, e.g. lithopone, bentonite, diatomaceous earth, crushed quartz, laminar Al2O3, TiO2, ZnO, Fe2O3, cork, P.T.F.E., copper phthalocyanine and silicas (fume, aerogel and xerogel) with or without pretreatment, pigments and oxidation inhibitors may also be added. Examples are given. Uses: For cleaning typewriters; sealing and caulking applications; in damping apparatus and in insoles for athletic shoes.
