889,650. Arm-rests. ROVER CO. Ltd. Nov. 28, 1960 [Nov. 26, 1959], No. 40148/59. Class 52(2) An adjustable arm-rest assembly for a seat comprises an arm-rest 6 attached to and supported by a hollow body 5 which may be moved in an upward or downward direction in a fixed guideway 3 by means acting between the guideway and the body 5, the means including a manually operable wheel 9 giving a fine adjustment and accessible from outside the body. The means may comprise a rotatable screw shaft 8 fast with the wheel 9 and mounted inside the body 5 and a fixed nut 7 carried on the guideway 3 and engaging the shaft 8. The wheel may be completely enclosed within the body 5 and be accessible through a slot 10 in the outside wall 11 of the body 5 or the wheel may protrude through the slot 10. Alternatively, the shaft 8 and nut 7 may be replaced by a rack and pinion provided with a locking device or a worm and pinion. In this case the wheel may be positioned on the right hand side (Fig. 1) of the arm-rest 6 instead of protruding through the cover 11.
