Abstract

2,2,2,21,21,21-Hexafluorodiethyl ether is pre pared by reacting an alkali metal 2,2,2-trifluoroethanolate with a reactive ester (e.g. an arylsulphonate) of 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol under superatmospheric pressure. The product is useful in convulsion therapy (see Group VI). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 814,493.ALSO:Medicinal compositions for use as convulsants comprise 2,2,2,21,21,21-hexafluorodiethyl ether, either in admixture with a pharmaceutical carrier suitable for parenteral administration, or in vapour form, for inhalation, in admixture with a respirable gaseous pharmaceutical carrier which is oxygen or air, or contains oxygen or air, sufficient for normal respiratory purposes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 814,493.
