Abstract

Catalysts for selectively hydrogenating acetylenic compounds to the corresponding ethylenic compounds are produced by contacting a supported platinum group metal with a solution of a lead compound in an organic solvent. The metal is preferably Pd and the Pb compound may be the acetate or basic acetate, the solvent being preferably a primary alcohol (up to C6) such as ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. Catalyst supports specified are charcoal, CaCO3, BaCO3 and BaSO4.ALSO:Catalysts for selectively hydrogenating acetylenic compounds to the corresponding ethylenic compounds are produced by contacting a supported platinum group metal, especially Pd, with a solution of a lead compound in an organic solvent. In examples 3 : 7-dimethyloct-6-en-1-yn-3-ol is converted to the 1 : 6-dien-3-ol and 2-methylbut-3-yn-2-ol to the 3-en-2-ol.
