Abstract
888,676. Forage harvesters. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. July 4, 1960, No. 23259/60. Class 6(3). In a forage-harvester of the kind having knives 36 on a transverse rotor 35 delivering either directly or indirectly to a shoot 39 and thence to a trailer (not shown), the harvesterframe 2 is mounted on a pair of laterally-spaced wheels 16, 27 carried by cranks 14, 26, the stubble-ward wheel 27 being forward of the grassward wheel 16 so that the wheels are longitudinally offset but are interconnected for conjoint adjustment by means of a ram 5, the interconnecting linkage including a lever 20, 69 connected to each crank and a member 60 pivoted between the levers and connected to the ram. In Fig. 1, the rotor 35 delivers directly to the shoot 39, but in Fig. 3 an auger 40 first receives. the cut crop and delivers it to a fan 43 by which it is blown up a spout 44 into the shoot. The crank 26 is mounted on a shaft 21 extending across the rear of the frame and the lever 20 is secured to the grassward end of it. The shaft can be made telescopic, as in Fig. 6, the portion 50 being slidable within the portion 21 and lockable therein by nuts and bolts 51 so that the wheel 27 may have two alternative positions (full and dotted lines). The grassward wheel also has two positions caused by rotating the crank 14 through 180 degrees about its crank-axle, the lever 69 being detachably secured to the crank by bolts 67 to permit this. Initial settings of the wheels 16, 27 are adjustable by alternative holes 64, 76 for the pivotal connections to the levers 20, 69.
