1318071 Combine harvester CLAYSON NV 29 July 1970 [30 July 1969] 36696/70 Heading A1F In a combine harvester, part of the strawwalker mechanism is replaced by an additional separating device to effect further threshing and grain separation. The cut crop is conveyed to the threshing cylinder 4 and cooperating concave 5, and from there it is fed to a rotary beater 22, having equiangularly spaced plates 37, which guides the crop over a grate 21. The plates 37 beat the crop as it passes over the grate 21 to effect a certain amount of grain separation, and in addition the nature of the slats 31-34 is such that a threshing effect is achieved. From there the crop passes to a tined cylinder 24 co-operating with a two-part concave 23. The tines 67, reinforced by gussets 70, are inclined rearwardly with respect to the direction of rotation of the cylinder 24, and are fitted in staggered, equiangularly-spaced rows. The first part of the concave 23 has longitudinally extending slats 39-45', mounted edge-on to the working surface, interconnected by curved transverse slats 46, and thus both threshing and grain separation are effected. The rear part of the concave 23 comprises longitudinally extending U-shape girders 52-55 having their surfaces inclined as shown, and thus grain separation only is effected. The grate 21 and both parts of the concave 23 are preferably adjustable, with respect to the beater 22 and the cylinder 24. The beater 22 and grate 21 could be replaced by a crop transporter, and the concave 23 could be made in one unit, taking the form of either the front or rear part. Alternatively, a sieve or similar device could be used to form the concave, or a portion of the concave in combination with the described front or rear parts. Further separation could be effected by means of an air flow below the concave 23 onto the material coming from the additional separating device. The whole additional separation unit could be an accessory, where it is fitted when the nature of the crop or the desired capacity requires the additional mechanism.
