[Also in Group XVII] Heat-sealing reciprocable jaws in a packaging machine comprise insulating blocks 28, 29 connected to conductor members 24, 25 with strip resistance heating elements 34, 35 extending between the blocks and members. The elements have low heating and cooling time constants and are connected to a pulse source of electrical energy through terminals 36-39. The jaws seal a vent 17 in a bag top 16.
