Abstract
888,374. Moving coil instruments. MINNEAPOLIS - HONEYWELL REGULATOR CO. March 14, 1958 [May 28, 1957], No. 8260/58. Class 37. In a pivoted mounting for the coil 17w of an electric instrument comprising a permanent magnet 6 lying within the coil, and a yoke 7 and cylindrical support block 13 surrounding the coil; two sets of crossed leaf springs 1, 2 and 3, 4 secure the coil to the upper and lower surfaces of the support block whereby the coil may pivot about the longitudinal axis of the block. The leaf springs 1, 2 are secured to the upper part of the coil frame 17# at points 21, 22 and to the upper surface of the block 13 at points 31, 32; and the leaf springs 3, 4 are secured to the lower part of the frame at points 53, 54 and to the lower surface of the block or points 43, 44. The support block is seated against a frame block 8 and held in position by detents 15 engaging an annular groove in the support block which may thereby be rotated to provide a zero adjustment for the mechanism. The leaf springs, which may constitute electrical connections to the coil, provide a restoring force on the coil that is independent of the orientation of the mechanism with respect to a given accelerative field, e.g. gravity.
