Abstract

A moving coil instrument of the type in which the coil 10 is mounted entirely on one side of the rotational spindle 16 (on an arm 12) and is balanced by a balance weight 61 on the opposite side of the spindle has two parallel arms 45 for carrying the weight, which is manually adjustable relative to these arms. A groove in the weight engages ledges 47 on the arms, and serrations 68 engage similar serrations on the arms to retain the weight in the set position. The resilient arms are formed integrally as part of a plastics structure including a sleeve 17 to fit on the spindle, the arm 12 which carries the coil of the instrument and side arms 42 which carry poise weights 62 for further balancing the system. These weights are of spring form and are mounted on resilient limbs 40 which are pressed down and retained by ledges in the arms 42. The coil 10 is wound on a former 11 which fits resiliently on to the arm 12 by engagement of projections 33, 34 with similar projections 30, 31 in the arm structure. Contacts 60 engaging projections 20, 21 facilitate the connection between the coil and the spindle. The magnet structure (not shown) has annular pole-pieces disposed within and below the coil 10 centred on the axis 18.
