Abstract
Fungicidal manganese-containing products are prepared by reacting 1 mole of ammonium ethylene-bis-dithiocarbamate with more than 1 mole of a manganese oxide or mixture of manganese oxides. Manganous oxide and/or manganese dioxide in amounts up to 2.5 mol may be used and the reaction may be in the presence of water at a temperature between 10 DEG C. and 50 DEG C. A stable product is obtained by neutralising the reaction mixture with acids, or dehydrating in vacuo, or by standing in the presence of oxygen after separation from the reaction mixture. After separation, the mother liquor may be recycled and ammonia recovered. Examples describe the reaction of manganous oxide and manganese dioxide with ammonium ethylene-bis-dithiocarbamate prepared from ethylene diamine, ammonia and carbon disulphide, to form products with fungical activity. The compounds may be mixed with emulsifying agents, fillers, e.g. cell pitch powder, talc or kaolin, carriers and solvents for application.ALSO:Fungicidal compositions comprise as active agent the reaction products of 1 mol. of ammonium ethylene-bis-dithiocarbamate with more than 1 mol. of a manganese oxide or mixture of manganese oxides (Group IV (b)), together with wetting agents, emulsifying agents, fillers, e.g. pitch powder, kaolin or talc, carriers and solvents, and may be used as dust, wettable powder or emulsions. The products are active against Alternaria tenins, Phytophtora infestans, and Plasmopora viticola, and Peronospora.
